SAINT HELENA, CA — More than two dozen Bank of America locations in the Bay Area and over 100 across the nation have recently closed or are slated for closure in the coming months.

The Bank of America Financial Center at 1001 Adams St. in St. Helena was among them. It was a leased property that caught on fire in 2020 and the owner chose to not rebuild or reopen, Colleen Haggerty, Bank of America senior vice president of marketing and global affairs, told Patch.

While the St. Helena branch is closed, Haggerty said the ATMs at 1001 Adams St. will remain open for customers. The drive-thru ATM and walk-up ATM are open 24 hours and accept deposits and credit card payments in addition to traditional ATM transactions.

The other three Bank of America locations in Napa County — 1700 1st St. in Napa, 2 Financial Plaza in Napa, and 5085 Main St. in American Canyon— remain open. The 1st Street branch is open 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday, while the other two are open 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The Bay Area closures were reported by the San Francisco Business Times. According to the newspaper, Bank of America is the largest bank operating in the Bay Area.

Haggerty shared the reasoning behind the wave of closures, which continues through the end of 2024.

"Today, people use digital banking more than ever for their everyday financial needs and come into financial centers for more complex transactions or discussions about their finances," Haggerty said. "So we have been adjusting our retail network where centers are located in close proximity to one another, or where client traffic has diminished significantly."
