4 Boys Arrested After Attempted Carjacking Near Culver City Mall

Four boys were arrested after trying to carjack a man near Westfield Culver City, police said.

CULVER CITY, CA — Four boys suspected of attempting a carjacking near Westfield Culver City have been arrested, police said Monday.

Police determined that four boys approached a man near the 6100 block of Sepulveda Boulevard before 5 p.m. Thursday and demanded his vehicle, the Culver City Police Department said Tuesday.

One of the boys pulled a gun out of his waistband and demanded the man's keys, while the three other boys surrounded him, police said.

After the man told the boys the vehicle didn't belong to him, they ran southbound on Sepulveda Boulevard, police said.

Police canvassed the area for the suspects. After one of the boys came across patrol vehicles, he ran toward the Hannum Avenue overpass of the Marina Freeway. As he was running, police saw the boy reaching toward his waistband. They caught up with him and arrested him, police said.

Officers detained two other suspects shortly thereafter. The fourth was apprehended after that, police said.

Police recovered a gun with a bullet in the chamber that they believe is connected to the attempted carjacking.

The names of the suspects were not released because of their ages.
