Father Charged In Toddler's Death After Child Found Unresponsive In Vehicle: LA County Sheriff

The father of a child found unresponsive in a vehicle is facing charges connected to the toddler's death.

The father of a toddler who was found unresponsive in a vehicle is facing charges connected to the child's death, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced Wednesday.

Deputies responded to an emergency call regarding a child not breathing just after 3 p.m. Tuesday on the 3800 Block of Chanson Drive, which is a residential neighborhood located in the unincorporated View Park-Windsor Hills area near South Los Angeles.

"The call involved a child who was found unresponsive in a vehicle," deputies wrote in a statement.

Paramedics from the LA County Fire Department pronounced the child dead at the scene, according to deputies.

The father, 40-year-old Edwin Johnson of View Park, was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and child neglect, authorities said.

He was released on bond after posting $25,000 bail. He's due to appear in court on Thursday, according to jail records.

NBC 4 reported the girl was 20 months old.

Authorities did not specify how exactly they suspect Johnson is connected to the child's death or who made the emergency call to the Marina del Rey Sheriff's Station.
