Pop's Bagels Opening At The Culver Steps

CULVER CITY, CA — Move over New York, the West Coast is stepping up the bagel game with Pop's Bagels at its new location at the Culver Steps opening Saturday.

Pop's launched as a catering operation by founder Zach Liporace in 2017. And since, it has grown to become a leader among bagel aficionados in SoCal.

Liporace lived in Los Angeles for six years and could never find the perfect bagel. That's when he decided to take matters into his own hands, starting in his small studio apartment and experimenting with creating homemade bagels and cream cheese for friends.

He named the bagel project after his grandfather, a bagel connoisseur from New York. Now, Pop's Bagels has two locations in Brentwood and now Culver City.

The bagelry offers an array of original and gluten-free choices ranging from plain to the “Everything” bagel, each with a quality and freshness that hits it out of the park every time. It's even earned nods from East Coast fans, including the New York Times.

Each bagel is light and chewy, never dense, and always just-out-of-the-oven hot with delectable homemade cream cheeses and butter options. Bagel fans can choose from a variety of toppings from lox spreads to vegan cashew cream cheese with coconut yogurt.

The company is among several to open at the Culver Steps, a 120,000-square-foot mixed-used development in downtown Culver City. Other retailers, services and restaurants to open include Sephora, CorePower Yoga, Philz Coffee, Mendocino Farms, Salt & Straw, Pop’s Bagels, and Erewhon Market.

The location is near the grand staircase that connects an elevated pavilion to the ground-level plaza, with the landscaped stairs also doubling as amphitheater seating for outdoor events. The center features approximately 40,000 square feet of retail space, 80,000 square feet of creative office space occupied by entertainment giant Amazon Studios, a nearly one-acre public plaza, and two levels of underground parking.
