DANVILLE, CA — Two Starbucks locations in Danville are closing Saturday, according to store employees and the Starbucks website. The stores are closing as a part of a nationwide push to close hundreds of locations due to underwhelming performance. The location at City Center in San Ramon will also close, Patch was able to confirm.

The Starbucks at 11000 Crow Canyon Road will close Saturday at 6 p.m., an employee told Patch. The Starbucks at 398 Hartz Avenue did not answer its phone, but it is one of the locations listed on the Starbucks website as "closed" as of Sunday.

The Starbucks at 1 Railroad Avenue will remain open, an employee confirmed to Patch, meaning that the chain will maintain a presence downtown.

"Damn, the 398 Hartz Ave. in Danville is a nice location since there's a lot of seating right in the middle of the downtown area. Hopefully another coffee shop takes its place," one commenter on Reddit wrote.

Other Bay Area locations listed as closed include:

Starbucks said Thursday that it expects to end its fiscal year with 18,300 stores in North America, down 124 from last year.

CEO Brian Niccol, a turnaround specialist who was brought to Starbucks a year ago to give the brand a jolt, said in a letter that a review of Starbucks locations revealed that many are falling short of financial performance targets or are failing to create the environment customers expect.

“Each year, we open and close coffeehouses for a variety of reasons, from financial performance to lease expirations,” Niccol wrote. “This is a more significant action that we understand will impact partners and customers. Our coffeehouses are centers of the community, and closing any location is difficult.”

Starbucks said it will offer severance and support packages for affected employees.
