DeSaulnier Wins Re-Election: CA's 11th Congressional District

EAST BAY, CA — East Bay voters decided whether they want incumbent U.S. Rep. Mark DeSaulnier (D-CA) to serve another term.

The Associated Press called the race Wednesday morning.

He fended off Republican challenger Nisha Sharma, a realtor and business owner, in the race to represent California's 11th Congressional District. DeSaulnier maintained his lead as votes were tallied Tuesday.

DeSaulnier has represented the district, which includes most of Contra Costa County, for five years in Congress and said he "understsand[s] the issues that matter to Contra Costa families." Sharma said she was running to do a better job addressing issues such as homelessness, public schools and traffic.
