Danville Swears In New Mayor, Vice Mayor; Names Winner Of Danville Award

The town also presented numerous service awards, including the Danville Award and the Michael K. Shimansky Community Service Award.

DANVILLE, CA — Newell Arnerich was sworn in for his eighth term as mayor of Danville Tuesday night at the 44th Annual Mayor's Installation and Community Service Awards.

Arnerich has lived in Danville for 38 years, and served on the Danville Town Council since 1995.

Robert Storer, who has served on the Danville Town Council from 2009 to present and has served as mayor and vice mayor for three terms, was named vice mayor.

"It has been an honor to serve as your mayor. I will continue to work as your councilmember with the same dedication and commitment, and same belief in the strength of our town. I look forward to supporting the continued success of Danville, and our continued success as a council and the town of Danville staff building on this progress ahead. Thank you to all you for making this year so special," outgoing Mayor Renee Morgan said in her remarks.

The town also presented several community awards. The Michael K. Shimansky Community Service Award, named for a long-time council member, was given to Connor Fitzpatrick for his work on the Town of Danville Bicycle Advisory Commission.

The Danville Award, the town's highest honor, was awarded to the All Wars Memorial Board of Directors for their work to remodel the All Wars Memorial. The board helped raise funds for new benches, monuments, signage, and additional enhancements.

The following groups and individuals also received awards:

  • American Legion Post 246 for its programs, services, and donations benefiting local veterans, youth, and the entire community.
  • The Valley Oak Respite Center and Gary Peer for their work providing security, enrichment, and resources to families affected by dementia.
  • Madeleine Roytfeld for her work mentoring and representing Danville youth and the San Ramon Valley Unified School District in events and organizations throughout the state.
  • Danville Ramp Clean-Up Crew for assembling a dedicated team of volunteers to clean up trash along Danville freeway ramps.
  • Katrina Broome for bringing together 324 homeowners to build a new playground, organize the community dedication, and coordinate the annual National Night Out.
