Pharmacist Charged With Robbing Danville Pharmacy At Gunpoint

Officials said Jonathan Szkotak wore a surgical mask when he allegedly robbed the CVS Pharmacy in April.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A man accused of stealing drugs from a Danville pharmacy at gunpoint in April has been charged with a felony count of second-degree robbery, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office announced today. Jonathan Szkotak, who prosecutors say is a registered pharmacist working for Alameda Alliance for Health in Alameda County, allegedly walked up to the counter of a CVS Pharmacy while wearing a surgical mask and brandished a gun at the staff on April 3.

The loss of 17 tablets of clonazepam, a benzodiazepine and sedative more commonly known as Klonopin, and 57 tablets of an opioid called buprenorphine was reported to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency in connection with the robbery.

Investigators say that at the time of Szkotak's arrest, he was allegedly found to be in possession of crushed buprenorphine. He's out of custody on $200,000 bail, but is scheduled to return
to court on Jan. 14.
