CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — East Bay residents awoke Tuesday to a rare but beautiful sight: Mt. Diablo dusted in snow.

The highest peaks were bedecked in a crown of white amid a storm that brought significant rainfall to the Bay Area.

Snow showers in the Bay Area's highest elevations were expected to continue into Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service. Snow was recorded at lower-than-usual levels of about 3,000 feet and could extend as low as 2,500 feet, the weather service said.
