Morning Pursuit Ends in Crash, Carjacking Suspects Arrested

The victim was driving in Dublin, possibly on his way home after gambling at a casino, when a vehicle struck him from behind, police said.

DUBLIN, CA: Police arrested three men today after the trio led officers on a pursuit through Alameda County after an early morning carjacking in Dublin. Around 5:40 a.m., police responded to a report of a carjacking near Positano Parkway and La Strada Drive, according to police.

Upon arrival, officers learned a 33-year-old victim was driving in the area, possibly on his way home after gambling at a casino, when a vehicle struck him from behind, police said. Three suspects armed with handguns then exited that vehicle and approached the victim's vehicle. The trio entered the victim's vehicle and forcibly pushed him into the passenger seat.

The suspects then drove the victim in his vehicle a short distance away, where they robbed him of his belongings, including a large amount of cash, according to police. The suspects then released the victim and drove off with the victim's vehicle.

After broadcasting a description of the vehicle to surrounding law enforcement agencies, Alameda County sheriff's deputies spotted the car as it traveled westbound on Interstate Highway 580, police said. Deputies attempted to pull the car over, however, the driver refused to stop. Police and deputies pursued the suspects into Oakland, where the stolen vehicle eventually crashed into a parked car near Bancroft and 46th avenues, according to police. Police took the three suspects into custody.

They've been identified as Nhat Luong, 43, Carlos Coronel, 31, and Victorio Jimenez, 33, police said. Inside the vehicle, authorities were able to locate the victim's stolen property. Additionally, handguns were recovered from the scene. One of the suspects suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash, according to police.

The victim also suffered minor injuries as a result of the carjacking. He was treated at the scene, police said. The trio was arrested on suspicion of carjacking, robbery, possession of a firearm and evading police, among other allegations. All three were booked into Santa Rita Jail, according to police.
