Dublin Election Results: Swalwell, Shoemaker, DeSaulnier Ahead

Preliminary results as of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday show that Eric Swalwell, an incumbent Democrat, is maintaining a healthy 64.48% lead in his re-election bid to represent U.S. House District 14, which includes Dublin, Pleasanton, Livermore, Union City, Hayward, and Castro Valley. Swalwell received 19,053 votes, ahead of Republican competitors Vin Kruttiventi (5,246), Alison Hayden (3,106), and Luis Reynoso. Swalwell has represented the district since 2023, and the area since 2013.

Mark DeSaulnier, an incumbent Democrat, maintained a healthy lead in his re-election bid for U.S. House District 10, which includes Danville, Alamo, San Ramon, a small part of Dublin, Walnut Creek, Concord, and Brentwood. As of 8:37 p.m., DeSaulnier received 379 votes, comfortably ahead of his nearest challenger, Republican Katherine Piccinini, who receoved 128 votes. DeSaulnier, a former state senator, assemblymember, county supervisor, and city council member, has represented the area since 2015, though it was previously called the 11th district before redistricting.

The race to represent the California State Senate 5th District was competitive. The new district includes Dublin, Livermore, Tracy, Stockton, and Lodi. Republican Jim Shoemaker narrowly led incumbent Democrat Jerry McNerney, who represented the former 9th District from 2013-23, 4,399 to 3,975. Democrat Carlos Villapudua trailed at 2,760 votes. The top two vote-getters will face off in November.

In the race for California State Assembly District 16, which spans Concord, Walnut Creek, Lamorinda, and most of the Tri-Valley except a small portion of Dublin, incumbent Democrat Rebecca Bauer-Kahan led Republican challenger Joseph Rubay 5,506 to 3,734. Bauer-Kahan is a lawyer and law professor who has been in the Assembly since 2018.

The race for a full-term seat on the Zone 7 Board of Directors was also competitive. Incumbent Laurene K. Green led with 5,972, followed by incumbent Kathy Narum (4,817), followed by incumbent Sandy Figuers (4,450), followed by newcomer Alan Burnham. The top three finishers will be elected. In the race for a short-term seat, Catherine Brown led comfortably with 6,786 votes, ahead of Seema Badar’s 1,314. The top finisher will be elected.

In Alameda County, voters narrowly favored Measure A, a proposal to change the county charter to change the notification period of civic service exams from at least 25 days to at least 14 days, by 57.44-42.56 percent. Support is stronger for Measure B, (63.54%-36.46%), a proposal to replace Section 62 of the Alameda County Charter to make California state law govern the recall of elected county officials.

Alameda County voters are voting solidly in favor (61.04-38.96%) of State Proposition 1, a proposal to authorize $6.5 billion in bonds to build mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities and homeless housing.

Alameda County District 1 Supervisor David Haubert is running unopposed.

Democrat Adam Schiff maintained a comfortable lead in the race for a full-term Senate seat. In Alameda County, he garnered 23,481 votes, or 35.56%, ahead of Democrat Barbara Lee (21%), Democrat Katie Porter (17.5%), and Republican Steve Garvey (15.9%).
