'Very Driven And Extremely Passionate': Dublin Star Student Athlete

DUBLIN, CA — We all know student athletes who also bring their A-game to other parts of their lives. Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know the individual stories behind the leaderboard. This submission comes from Ramya Ramakrishnan who nominated her son Akhil, a 9th grader at Dublin High School.

Why do you believe the star student athlete should be recognized?

Akhil is a competitive cricket player with an impressive list of accomplishments and national awards. He was recognized as one of top 5 percent of players nationally by MLCA (Major League Cricket Academy) last year and was in the Chairman's Honors list. He is the wicketkeeper and opening batsman of his team that has won numerous national championships. A few of his many accomplishments in both regional and national tournaments include awards for Best Batsman, Best Wicket keeper, MVP, Player of the Match, Man of the match and Best Fielder.

Akhil is very driven and extremely passionate about the sport. He trains hard throughout the year and tries to improve his game by watching international professionals and their techniques. Being a wicket keeper and an opening batsman requires a cricket player to be very sharp, focused and full of stamina. Cricket is an all day game that is often played for nearly 8 hours. His energy and enthusiasm is recognized even by local adult leagues in his city that often invite him to play in their teams.
