A man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a northbound Amtrak train in Carlsbad, authorities said​.

CARLSBAD, CA — A man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a train Monday in Carlsbad, authorities said.

Deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff's Station responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a northbound Amtrak train just before 5 p.m. The collision happened at the Carlsbad Village Drive grade crossing, near Interstate 5, according to sheriff's Deputy Joseph Pirri.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. His name and age were not released.
