Escondido council approves 70 townhomes near transit center (thecoastnews.com) — Escondido’s City Council has unanimously approved 70 for-sale townhomes next to the Escondido Transit Center, replacing a long-vacant office building on West Valley Parkway. The all-electric homes will target middle-income buyers, offering a mix of two- to four-bedroom units with significant open space and parking, though some residents argue the project should have used the site’s full allowable density.
   

2. ‘Highly desirable' dog breeds appearing at San Diego Humane Society (timesofsandiego.com) — If you’re thinking about adopting a dog in Escondido, the San Diego Humane Society is seeing a big influx of popular breeds like French bulldogs, pugs, and maltipoos at its local campus. With 676 dogs in care countywide, the shelter now offers a 14-day Adoption Trial Program so Escondido residents can “test run” bringing home a spayed, microchipped, vaccinated pet.
   

3. Leader Jones Issues Statement On Tijuana River Valley Sewage Crisis Agreement - (thevistapress.com) — A new U.S. EPA agreement to tackle the long-running Tijuana River Valley sewage crisis is drawing support from State Senator Brian Jones, whose district includes Escondido. He calls the pollution a serious environmental and public health threat and says he’ll keep pushing federal, state, and Mexican partners to turn today’s promises into lasting protections for affected communities.

'Déjà vu': Rabbi who was victim of 2019 antisemitic shooting mourns family member killed in Sydney (kansas.com) — An attempted arson at Escondido’s Dar-ul-Arqam mosque is recalled in coverage of a rabbi who survived the 2019 Poway synagogue shooting and is now mourning a relative killed in Sydney’s recent Hanukkah attack.
