93-Year-Old Kills Spouse, Turns Self In: Fremont Police

The 86-year-old victim was found dead in a parking lot in a commercial area of Fremont, authorities said.

FREMONT, CA — A 93-year-old man turned himself in to police in connection with the killing of his spouse, who was found dead in a parking lot in a commercial area of Fremont, authorities said.

Richard Hocking was booked on suspicion of homicide and a gun-related enhancement after giving a statement to detectives Saturday, according to police.

“Based on the circumstances, this appears to be an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community,” Fremont police said in a news release. “This remains an active investigation.”

Officers responded around 12:20 a.m. Saturday to the 5000 block of Mowry Avenue for a report of a shooting in which the caller said he’d shot his spouse and wanted to turn himself in, according to police.

Officers arrived to find the man near his vehicle in a parking lot and the 86-year-old victim in the front passenger seat, police said. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police, who said a gun was recovered in the vehicle.

The killing was Fremont’s first homicide of 2026, police said.
