Black History Month Exhibit Now Up At Gilroy Center For The Arts
The exhibit, curated by Louise Shields, is titled, "Celebrating Black Artists from Around the World; Past and Present."
GILROY, CA — The eighth annual Black History Month Art Exhibit is open at the Gilroy Center for the Arts this month.
The exhibit, curated by Louise Shields, is titled, “Celebrating Black Artists from Around the World; Past and Present.” It celebrates the first Black artists who gained international fame, paving a path and overcoming barriers that led to the Black artists of the future.
They include painters Henry Ossawa Tanner and Jean-Michel Basquait, photographer James Van der Zee and Augusta Savage.

Contemporary artists featured include Ange Hillz and Mickalene Thomas.
The exhibit will be up through Feb. 28. The Gilroy Center for the Arts is located at 7341 Monterey St.
