Car Strikes, Kills Elderly Gilroy Woman Tuesday Night
The circumstances behind why the 87-year-old woman was in the roadway in the 800 Block of Fifth Street are not known.

GILROY - An 87-year-old Gilroy woman was struck and killed Tuesday night by a car in 800 block of Fifth Street.
Police in Gilroy report that approximately 9:19 p.m., police and fire units were dispatched to the Fifth Street location on a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.
When they arrived, emergency personnel found an 87-year-old female had been struck by a car traveling on Fifth Street.

CPR was initiated, but despite lifesaving efforts, police say the woman succumbed to the traumatic injuries sustained in the collision, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators with the Gilroy Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team have assumed the investigation and are working to determine the factors that caused the collision.

Police say at this time it is not known if alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor. The circumstances behind why the female was in the roadway are also unknown.
No arrests were made in this case. Once the investigation is complete it will be reviewed and a determination made as to if criminal charges are appropriate in this case.
