Gilroy Garlic Festival Vehicle Retrieval Opens

The Gilroy Police Department also advises festival goers the Family Assistance Center will move starting Tuesday to its Sixth St. location.

GILROY, CA — Motorists who left vehicles parked at the Gilroy Garlic Festival grounds amid the mass shooting may recover their cars and trucks starting Monday, the Gilroy Police Department reported.

To recover a vehicle, registered owners must go to Antonio Del Buono Elementary School located at 9300 Wren Ave. in Gilroy between 9 a.m. and 6:30 p.m..

Individuals must produce a valid driver’s license, proof of registration and insurance prior to
the release of the vehicle. They will then be shuttled to the site under law enforcement escort.

The hours of operation ends at 6:30 p.m.

Festival goers who still haven't picked up their personal property or are in need of counseling may access Family Assistance Center services at a new location starting Tuesday at the library at 350 W. 6th St. in downtown Gilroy from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The American Red Cross will be on hand.

More information may be obtained by calling the center at 408-209-8356. The city's information hotline at 408-846-0584 is also fielding questions.

National Night Out Postponed

In the wake of the Garlic Festival tragedy, the police department also announced it is delaying its participation in the National Night Out campaign once scheduled for the evening of Aug. 6.

Instead, the event will be slated for Oct. 1.

Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Investigations is still sweeping the crime scene and poring over evidence with Gilroy Police.
