Gilroy Man Dies In I-680 Big-Rig Crash

BREAKING: The crash happened at 7 a.m. Sunday near San Ramon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA — A big-rig driver who died in a crash off of Interstate Highway 680 in San Ramon on Sunday morning has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as Ermilo Gonzales Jr., a 62-year-old man from Gilroy.

The crash was reported at about 7 a.m. Sunday when someone called the California Highway Patrol to say a big-rig had gone off southbound Highway 680 just north of Alcosta Boulevard, clipped a vehicle on the right
shoulder of the highway and then went through a fence and hit a tree.

Gonzales died in the crash. The occupants of the vehicle that the big-rig struck were uninjured, according to the CHP.

An autopsy on Gonzales was scheduled for Tuesday, according to the coroner's office.
