Gilroy Man Gets Eight Years for Murder

Osiris Munoz murdered a man downtown and assaulted another in 2008.

A Gilroy man received an eight-year prison sentence on Monday after pleading “no contest” to stabbing one man to death and assaulting another man downtown in 2008, according to county district attorney spokeswoman, Amy Cornell.

Osiris Munoz, 30, initially pleaded “not guilty” at his arraignment in February 2009 to one count of voluntary manslaughter and one count of assault with a deadly weapon, the spokeswoman said. He changed his plea in February of this year.

Munoz and the two victims were at the Rio Nilo club, 7466 Monterey St., on March 16, 2008. The stabbing and assault occurred a few blocks away, near the intersection of Monterey and Martin Streets, said Gilroy Police spokesman, Chad Gallacinao.
