Gilroy Mayor's State Of The City Address Set For Saturday

Mayor Marie Blankley is set to discuss Gilroy's economic and commercial development along with streets, transportation and infrastructure.

GILROY, CA — Gilroy Mayor Marie Blankley will deliver the State of the City address on Saturday at the council chambers.

The speech will focus mainly on economic and commercial development along with streets, transportation and infrastructure.

Blankley will touch on current projects in Gilroy, such as the addition of a two-rink ice facility to the Gilroy Sports Park operated by Sharks Ice. The city hopes to have a deal approved this year, with construction beginning in early 2023, according to Blankley’s written address.

The mayor is also expected to touch on recreation opportunities around the Gilroy Gardens, improving Gilroy’s downtown alleys and recent purchases by Amazon and Google in the city.

Regarding infrastructure, Blankley will touch on the city’s application for a $19.5 million federal grant for a bridge connecting the west end of 10th Street to Santa Teresa Boulevard and several other projects in the pipeline.

The mayor also plans to address drought conditions and give a shoutout to the Gilroy Unified School District.
