GILROY, CA — The Gilroy Police Department says it has responded to an increase in drug overdoses over the last week.
Officers used Narcan, a brand-name nalaxone nasal spray, to revive the individuals, and did not report any fatalities.
They said the overdoses are likely due to fentanyl, and overdoses from the drug have increased countywide in the last week.

Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine, and is often added to other drugs like heroin to increase potency.
Police did not release specific statistics on the number of overdoses, but said to contact Santa Clara County Behavioral Health Services for support and information on opioid addiction.
