SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — A man accused of shooting at a process server last weekend was arrested Thursday in Morgan Hill and now faces an attempted murder charge, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were called to a home on the 6,000 block of Mount Madonna Road, west of Gilroy, at 11:15 a.m. Saturday, officials said. The victim told investigators he was serving legal documents when the man started arguing with him — then shot at him. The victim fled the area and called 911 but was uninjured, officials said.

The sheriff's office identified the suspect as Christopher Croul, 64.

Members of the sheriff's emergency response and negotiation teams were sent to the area as the suspect barricaded inside the home. Deputies determined Croul was alone in the home and did not appear to be a threat to the public, but issued a shelter-in-place order for neighbors and evacuated Mount Madonna County Park.

Investigators said Croul was able to escape the home, and authorities called off a search around 6 p.m. citing lightning and hazardous terrain. Officials shared a photo of Croul and urged the public to consider him armed and dangerous.
