Man Shot During Burglary Attempt In Gilroy; Multiple Suspects In Custody

A man was shot Friday morning after confronting a group of people that was allegedly attempting to burglarize a car in Gilroy, police say.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- A man was shot during the early morning hours on Friday after confronting a group of people that was attempting to burglarize a car in Gilroy, police say.

Just before 3 am on May 26, officers from the Gilroy Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Hyde Park Drive and Victoria Drive for a report of suspicious subjects in the area. Police say the caller expressed concern due to recent burglaries in the area.

While en route to the call, officers say they learned that there were shots fired and a victim of a gunshot wound on scene. The victim, an adult male, said he confronted two subjects that were burglarizing a vehicle parked near the intersection. As he confronted the two subjects, a third subject fired several shots with an unknown type firearm, striking the victim in his leg. The suspects then fled on foot.

The victim’s injuries were non-life threatening, police say.

Officers were able to arrest one of the involved suspects at the scene, and through additional investigation, the officers say they learned the outstanding subjects may have relocated to one of their residences on Ervin Court.

Officers surrounded the house and hailed the occupants out. Two subjects believed to be involved were detained at the residence, while another suspect believed to be involved was located and detained by detectives as he was walking on Princevalle Street.

All the involved suspects are believed to be in custody, police say, but the investigation remains active and ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Gilroy Police Department at (408) 846-0350.
