Over 3-Hour Standoff In Gilroy Ends In Arrest: Police

GILROY, CA — Gilroy police arrested a man on suspicion of violating a temporary restraining order related to domestic violence in a standoff after he fled the scene and barricaded himself in his vehicle following a crash on Tuesday.

Carlos Gallegos, 43, was charged with felony reckless evading and resisting arrest/obstructing an officer.

Gallegos was accused of running from officers after they showed up at the 7700 block of Fennel Place, according to the Gilroy Police Department. He fled in his vehicle but crashed into a field at Monterey Road and Masten Avenue.

Gallegos then “refused to come out of his vehicle,” and barricaded himself while claiming to have explosives, a gun and a machete, according to police.

A K9 searched Gallegos’ vehicle and found a machete, but no firearms, bombs or other explosives.
