Two men are dead after a drive-by shooting in Salinas late Sunday night, according to police.

SALINAS - Two men are dead after a drive-by shooting in Salinas late Sunday night, according to police.

Police said officers responded to 1000 block of Ramona Avenue at 11:14 p.m. on reports of two victims suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Upon arrival, police said officers found a 21-year-old victim seated in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim, an 18-year-old man, was located in the area and transported to Natividad Medical Center where he was also pronounced dead.

A witness told police a dark SUV-type vehicle pulled up next to the victim vehicle before shooting. The vehicle continued southbound on Ramona Avenue and turned east on Pacheco Street.

Police said one of the victims has had gang contacts with the Salinas Police department and this incident is being investigated as gang-related.

This is the sixth and seventh homicide of the year in Salinas, and police are withholding the names of the victims until next of kin has been notified.
