SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — A 20-year-old San Martin man was killed in a solo vehicle crash south of Morgan Hill Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol. The CHP said the driver of a 2003 Nissan 350Z was seen by witnesses driving at a high-rate of speed on U.S. Highway 101 south near Bailey Avenue just after 1 a.m. The driver then passed a marked CHP unit south of East Dunne Avenue in Morgan Hill. The CHP officer tried to chase the Nissan, but lost it due to the high speeds.
The CHP said "arched" power lines eventually led them to the vehicle, near 13920 Llagas Avenue in San Martin. There, investigators determined that the driver somehow lost control of the Nissan, causing it to
land on the far side of a creek embankment.
When fire personnel arrived on scene, they were forced to upright the severely damaged vehicle to check on the condition of the driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
