Son of Former Councilman Begins Trial on Monday

Pete Valdez is charged with multiple felonies, including the attempted murder of a peace officer.

The son of a former Gilroy City Councilman, Pete Valdez, will begin trial on Monday for felony charges that include the attempted murder of a peace officer, according to district attorney spokeswoman, Amy Cornell.

Pete Valdez III, who shares his name with his father, was arrested on November 15, 2007, on the charges of attempted murder of a peace officer, assault on a peace officer, being a felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest, said the spokeswoman.

The first trial date will be Monday, June 27, at 8:30 a.m. in department 110 of the South County Courthouse in Morgan Hill, 301 Diana Ave.
