Vigil Held For Gilroy Native Killed In Shooting While Pregnant

Tatyanna Lopez, 19, was killed in an April 18 shooting in Merced along with her unborn child. She was eight months pregnant at the time.

GILROY, CA — Family and friends of a pregnant 19-year-old Gilroy native killed in April gathered at Gavilan Hills Memorial Park Wednesday for what would have been Tatyanna Lopez’s 20th birthday, according to KTVU.

Lopez, who was living in Los Banos, was killed in an April 18 shooting along with her unborn child. She was eight months pregnant at the time and was two weeks away from her expected delivery date, KTVU reported. Lopez’s boyfriend was injured in the shooting that took place outside a residence in Merced.

The Merced Police Department announced a suspect in July, but have yet to locate the man, 19-year-old Jonathan Xavier Dorado of Los Banos.

Lopez’s mother, Victoria Hogue, told KTVU that Lopez was “just an innocent bystander” at the “wrong place, wrong time.”

"I was robbed of watching my daughter deliver her first baby, watching her turn 20, all the things you wait for as a mom with your first child," Hogue told the station.

During the vigil, the family released lanterns into the sky, and asked the public for help in locating the suspect. KTVU reported that the family believes Dorado may be hiding in Southern California and received a tip that he was spotted in Oregon as recently as three weeks ago.
