Woman Killed Walking Granddaughter To School Is Identified
Eleazar Pineda Salinas was walking with her 7-year-old granddaughter along Tatum Avenue just before 8am Monday when a big rig hit here.

A woman fatally struck by a big-rig Monday morning just outside of Gilroy while walking her granddaughter to school has been identified as 65-year-old Eleazar Pineda Salinas, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

Salinas, a Gilroy resident, was walking with her 7-year-old granddaughter east along Tatum Avenue west of Wren Avenue around 7:50 a.m. Monday when she was struck by a 1994 Kenworth three-axle truck, California Highway Patrol officials said.

A 52-year-old Gilroy man was driving the truck in the same direction as the pedestrians when he drove onto the north shoulder and hit the woman, CHP officials said.
Salinas was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.

The truck driver was not injured and was not cited for the collision, CHP officials said.
Investigators do not suspect the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident, CHP officials said.
