SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Patch reader Ethan Stretton shared these photos of the so-called "comet of the century."

He told Patch he used his iPhone to take the photos around 7:50 p.m. Monday in Guerneville.

Comet C/2023A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS briefly returned to the evening skies this week over California, but there’s not much time to see before it disappears for another 80,000 years. The space rock slinging toward Earth from the solar system's outer reaches made its closest approach to our planet Saturday and was expected to continue to be bright for a few more days, especially Monday and Tuesday.
