Updated: Crash On Alexander Valley Road Involves Extrication

A 17-year-old driver and his 15-year-old passenger were seriously injured and needed to be extricated.

UPDATE 2:15PM-

A 17-year-old driver and his 15-year-old passenger were seriously injured and needed to be extricated from their 1992 Saturn after they crashed head-on into a truck while speeding east of Healdsburg this morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver, a Geyserville resident, was speeding west on Alexander Valley Road when he came up behind a stopped Lincoln sedan waiting to make a left turn onto West Soda Rock Lane at about 7:45 a.m., CHP officials said.

The Saturn driver hit his brakes to avoid hitting the Lincoln but lost traction with the road and slid into the eastbound lane, directly in the path of a 2007 GMC Sierra truck driven by a 50-year-old Santa Rosa resident.

The Saturn and the GMC collided head-on and the GMC swerved and also hit the Lincoln.

The Saturn spun off the road into a ditch, CHP officials said.

The two teens in the Saturn were taken to a hospital with serious injuries to their legs and head.

The other drivers did not require hospitalization.

UPDATE 9:45AM-

The California Highway Patrol reports they have reopened Alexander Valley Road east of Healdsburg as of 9:35 a.m.

A two-car traffic collision and the subsequent extraction of a person from one of the vehicles involved had completely closed the road for about 1.5 hours.

HEALDSBURG - One person was being extricated from a vehicle involved in a crash on Alexander Valley Road east of Healdsburg this morning, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Alexander Valley Road at West Soda Rock Lane was shut down around 8:15 a.m. for at least an hour and three vehicles are blocking the roadway, according to the CHP.

CHP Officer Keri Post said officers were at the scene.

According to the CHP communications website, officers summoned to the area about 7:44 a.m. found a two-vehicle traffic collision. One person was trapped inside a vehicle.

By 8:00 a.m., the roadway was completley blocked. According to the CHP, an extrication of the trapped person.

No other details were immediately available.
