Here are the top 3 stories in Healdsburg today:
- Controversy on Grove Street! According to the Press Democrat, the new owners of the old, 11-room Honor Mansion bed-and-breakfast at 891 Grove St., which is now called "The Ruse," have applied to the City of Healdsburg for a permit that would allow them to operate a “private recreational club" on the property with "a 2,392-square foot outdoor pavilion" featuring "a full kitchen, bar area and lounge, which could serve beer, wine and spirits on-site." This has reportedly "angered and alarmed a group of neighbors" in nearby homes, who are worried the old inn will turn into a "private club" hosting big, boozy events for high-end clientele. The group of developers who own the inn and submitted the permit application includes "longtime Silicon Valley executive Craig Ramsey, and Patrick and Jonathan Wilhelm, whose family built the Mayacama Golf Club," the PD reports. They've been going back and forth with the city on the particulars — and that conversation will continue at the Healdsburg City Planning Commission meeting tomorrow night, which is sure to be rife with arguments from both sides. For a preview of their positions, you can check out a petition being circulated by the anti- camp called "No Greed on Grove" — plus a couple of lively comment threads on the topic in the "Beverly Healdsburg" and "What's Happening Healdsburg" Facebook community groups. - Beloved Healdsburg coffee shop Flying Goat Coffee will be opening a new location very soon on the plaza, according to their Instagram account. The Goat famously used to be housed where Black Oak Coffee is now, but closed in 2020 — and has existed since only as a small storefront, tucked away in the Center Street strip mall next to the Raven Film Center, with limited hours and without all the bells and whistles. This new one should be more of a THING. Shop Local Healdsburg reports that the new shop could open as soon as next week "at the corner of Center and Matheson St, right across the Plaza." - Quick update on the e-bike share program downtown from Healdsburg city officials. The city has partnered with Bird, a big scooter and bike share company, for the three-year pilot program. "We anticipate bikes will be available in the next couple of weeks," officials say. "Download the Bird App to access the bikes, and if you are a CARE customer you are eligible for a reduced rental rate. ... The app will show you the nearest bike available for use. Bike stations are being proposed at these initial locations, which may expand based on ridership: Foss Creek Pathway at Railroad Depot, Healdsburg Avenue at Plaza Park, North Street at West Plaza, Public parking lot near 434 Healdsburg Avenue, Foss Creek Pathway near City Hall, Giorgi Park, Community Center." - Some Healdsburg residents reported getting messages from AT&T over the weekend, warning of a possible PG&E power shutoff due to fire weather. Nothing seemed to come of it, though... (Facebook Groups)
