Here are the top 3 stories today in Healdsburg:

  1. There's only about a month til the November election! County officials say they'll start sending out mail-in ballots next Monday, and ballot drop boxes will be open by Tuesday. Feeling a little unprepared? The PD has a great roundup of everything you'll be voting on this time around. At the state level, we've got governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, controller, treasurer, attorney general, insurance commissioner, board of equalization member, schools superintendent, U.S. senator, U.S. representative, state senator (Healdsburg's own Mike McGuire versus Republican challenger Gene Yoon), state assemblymember, some judicial positions and a handful of measures. At the county level, we're choosing a schools superintendent — although there's only one candidate, Amie Carter, after Brad Coscarelli dropped out. And at the local level here in Healdsburg, we're voting on two measures: An update to the city's "transient occupancy tax" rules that would allow tourist taxes to go toward local park improvements and affordable housing projects, as well as a "cannabis business tax" that would allow the city to collect a special tax from any future weed shops allowed in town. We'll also be electing two new city councilmembers from a pool of seven candidates. To learn more about them, you can stop by the (free!) candidate forum tomorrow night at the Raven Theater. 2. As I'm sure you know already, beloved local restaurant Campo Fina closed for good last week. To commemorate its decade-long legacy in town, Campo supporters held a "farewell parade" from the restaurant to the plaza late Sunday afternoon, according to Shop Local Healdsburg. "Locals masterminded a funeral procession a la New Orleans style with a brass band 🎺 complete with a wooden coffin ⚰️ parading around the Plaza at a word-of-mouth, locals-only-party," the folks behind Shop Local reported on Instagram. And here's what they say happened next: "After the short procession, hundreds gathered back at Campo Fina and were greeted by delicious free food (Dino of Diavola Pizzeria tended a shawarma station, while another station served Mexican food and cotten candy), and an open free bar 🍷 🍷 🍷 An incredible live band played hit after hit of classic nostalgia, beckoning you to get your lead out from the likes of Led Zepplin to Alanis Morrisette’s 'Jagged Little Pilll'. The night fittingly ended to the tune of 'Purple Rain' by Prince, with many locking their arms shoulder-to-shoulder, belting out power ballad lyrics from their lungs, as they had been all evening." 3. It's officially autumn in Healdsburg and a bunch of fall holiday traditions are dotting the calendar over the next couple months. First, on Oct. 15, we've got the zombie crawl through downtown Healdsburg, now in its second year. Then, on Oct. 16, the Healdsburg Boys & Girls Club will host their "Healdsburg Crush" harvest festival and fundraiser in the plaza. After that, on Oct. 22, the Healdsburg animal shelter will take over the plaza for their annual "Howl-O-Ween" pet parade and costume contest. Then comes the "Hallowine Run" marathon for charity on Oct. 29, starting at Orsi Family Vineyards this year. On the same day, the Healdsburg Farmers Market will host their 38th annual pumpkin festival and costume competition at the market. The big Día de los Muertos event in the plaza will also be hosted as usual on Oct. 30 this year by the city and local nonprofit Corazón Healdsburg. And looking ahead to November, the popular Healdsburg Turkey Trot run/walk through town is planned for the morning of Thanksgiving Day, to raise money for a college fund for local student athletes. Am I missing any big fall events? Let me know what else is on the schedule! Healdsburg pic of the day:

Healdsburg resident Mary Ruffato took this pic of Sasha, a well-known local bunny, grazing in the plaza over the weekend. She says the bunny's owner appeared to be a "gentleman dressed in a suit." The Shop Local Healdsburg Instagram account captured some footage of Sasha downtown on Sunday as well, as she hopped straight into the Fideaux pet boutique at North Street and Healdsburg Avenue.
