Today with the help of CalFire we are going to be burning piles of broom on the top of Fitch Mountain to reduce the fuel loads. You may see smoke coming from the top along the south side along the Butterfly Trail. We will be extremely careful even with all of the rain. The broom along the trail has taken over and creates a fire hazard. We are working with Ag and Open Space, LandPaths. Northern California Air Quality District, CalFire, City of Healdsburg, Fitch Mountain Homeowners Association and many others. These will be monitored burn piles. We have a bird surveyor making sure that we are not near any bird nests or bird habitat. We also have biologists and neighbors familiar with the area that will be right beside us. Included are pictures where you may see the smoke. Please do not call 911 if you see smoke on the Mountain up top. The trails on Fitch Mountain are not to have hikers from 0900 to 1500 do to crews working. Thank you for your cooperation. If you have questions, please contact the Fire Marshal Linda Collister at (707) 431-3125.
