Henry 1 Rescues Couple From Cliff at Pierce Point

Man and woman got lost on the beach and climbed up cliff.

A Sonoma County Sheriff's Office helicopter rescued a man and a woman who got stuck on a cliff in Marin County.

The climbers, both Novato residents, used a cell phone to report that they were stuck on a cliff at Pierce Point above McClure's Beach in Marin County shortly before 3 p.m. Friday, according to Lt. Clint Shubel of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office.

The couple had climbed the cliff while looking for a way up after becoming lost on the beach, and were in danger of slipping and falling to the bottom, Shubel said.

The helicopter, Henry 1, located the hikers approximately 250 feet up the face of the cliff, around 35 to 50 feet from the top.

The helicopter pilot lowered rescue medic Scott Freeman to the scene on a long line, and Freeman used a device known as a "horse collar" to secure both victims, one at a time, and fly them to safety.
