  1. In an update to an ongoing story, the man who was found dead in a Downtown Healdsburg parking lot has been identified as 41-year-old Abel Garza. According to officials, Garza had been asked to leave multiple hotels and allegedly returned with a hammer. He is believed to have assaulted several people, including hotel employees, and later climbed the roof of a nearby hotel, swinging the hammer and a metal object at employees. An autopsy was scheduled for Thursday to determine the cause of his death, but details have not yet been released. (KSRO)
  2. Andrew Behnke, a Tennessee pitcher who is currently playing for Healdsburg in the California Collegiate League, earned his first save with the Prune Packers on Thursday. In a recent match against the Walnut Creek Crawdads, Healdsburg emerged victorious with a score of 7-2. Behnke contributed to the team's success by pitching 2.1 innings, securing two strikeouts, and allowing only one hit, one earned run, and one walk. (Yahoo Sports)
  3. Calling all Sonoma County playwrights: The 17th annual Festival of New Plays at Mendocino College is currently accepting submissions for a new 10-minute script. Local authors from Lake, Sonoma, and Mendocino counties are encouraged to submit their short plays for potential production on campus during the fall of 2023. This longstanding event, led by theater professor Reid Edelman, aims to provide valuable learning experiences for directing and acting students while showcasing the talent of student-written scripts. The submission deadline is Aug. 1. The festival will take place from Nov. 2 to 5, featuring performances of the selected plays. (Lake County News)
