Public Library Fees, Charges Go Up

Saturday marks the first day of the new fees and charges schedule for all Sonoma County branch libraries

New fines and fees will go into effect at the Sonoma County Library on Saturday, September 15. Overdue fines will be 25 cents per item per day for all items except DVDs.

Overdue fines for DVDs will be raised to $1 per item per day. DVDs are checked out for one week (7 days), books for three weeks.

Other changes include an increase in maximum fines per item to $10, and a reduction of the maximum fines before borrowing privileges are suspended to $5.

Following two months of public input, the Library Commission voted to make changes at their August 6 meeting. The change is to encourage library users to return materials on time.
