Sonoma County Fields 42 Potential Affordable Housing Sites

After issuing a request for potential housing sites, county officials have received submissions totaling 100 acres.

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Since putting out a call last month for vacant parcels that could be used for building new housing, Sonoma County has heard back on 42 sites with potential for adding 2,000 new units, officials said.

The county hopes to find vacant land in unincorporated Sonoma County where high-density housing can be built, according to Maggie Fleming, communications manager for the county.

The county issued a request for potential sites on Dec. 26. As of Friday, they had received submissions for 42 parcels totaling about 100 acres.

The sites are being reviewed to determine whether they meet criteria for rezoning for higher density, affordable or workforce housing, Fleming said.

The county is still receiving submissions for sites that are outside city limits, have access to public water and sewer lines, and are within walking distance of transit and other services.
