- Just a couple days after Healdsburg police say a young woman attacked an officer downtown, another local cop reportedly found himself in the lurch while driving an alleged public masturbator to the station early Sunday evening. Here's the full announcement from police: "On Sunday September 25th at about 6:20 PM police received a report of a subject masturbating in public outside a business on the 100 block of Healdsburg Ave. Officers contacted the individual and placed him under arrest on suspicion of indecent exposure. After being place in a patrol car the suspect began to kick the inside of the patrol vehicle. As he was being transported to the Sonoma County Jail the suspect breached the partition between the front and back seat of the vehicle by kicking it out and proceeded to spit on the transporting officer as well as berating him with profanities and threatening to kill him. The officer was able to safely get the suspect to the Sonoma County Jail where he was booked on charges of threatening an officer, battery on a peace office, resisting arrest, criminal threats, indecent exposure, and vandalism. The suspect was identified as 44 year old Christopher Shawn Carter, a transient out of Oregon." (Healdsburg Police Dept. via Facebook & KRON4)
- Also over the weekend — it was a big weekend! — police say a 40-year-old man from Healdsburg was stabbed in the head during a fight "involving several males" at Railroad Park along the river, near 28 Front St., on Saturday night. "When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult male suffering from a stab wound to his head," police say. "Suspects had fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival. The victim was transported to a local hospital via ambulance for treatment for serious, non-life threatening injuries. The investigation into this incident is still ongoing." More from the Press Democrat: "There were multiple people visiting the park at the time and police are still conducting victim and witness interviews to determine suspects and the cause of the fight, [a police spokesman] said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Healdsburg Police Department at 707-431-3377." (Healdsburg Police Dept. via Facebook & Press Democrat; paywall)
- Remember those big "design dialogues" held at the CraftWork Healdsburg co-working space last year? Well, a second round for 2022 starts tonight at 5 p.m. Last week's Healdsburg Tribune had a front-page story on the inspiration behind the event. "Ever since the American Institute of Architects (AIA) came to Healdsburg" in 1982 and recommended the city pursue a path as "tourist industry destination," the story goes, "the town has turned increasingly self-reflective, attentive to its brand in a way that goes beyond just tourism. It’s now not just a wine destination but a design destination, where city planners, architects, sustainability evangelists and lifestyle gurus gather to contemplate how to build through the next decades while maintaining Healdsburg’s unique attractions." And that tradition continues with three super high-profile dialogues this week. The event is a brainchild of Jim Heid, the same urban planner who came up with CraftWork and the sleek new 12-home River House campus on Kennedy Lane, according to the Trib. This year's talks — co-hosted by the folks behind the Mill District — will be held at CraftWork tonight, The Madrona on Oct. 20 and Little Saint on Nov. 14. You can read a ton more about them here.
