The lengthened light show is made possible by nonprofit group Illuminate the Arts, which produces the structure outfitted with 25,000 LED lights.

The organization was able to change the previous shut-off time of 2 a.m. to dusk, ensuring that the Bay Lights will shine whenever it's dark out.

"Our team worked hard to give visitors and locals alike more time each night to enjoy the light sculpture," Illuminate the Arts board chairman Ben Davis said in a statement.

Artist Leo Villareal has programmed new sequences for the extended hours that will premiere on Nov. 2 after 2 a.m.

Illuminate the Arts will hold a celebration for the all-night lights at the Ferry Building on Nov. 2 at 6:30 a.m.

Refreshments will be provided for attendees to watch The Bay Lights as the sun rises.

The $8 million light project debuted on March 5 and will be on display until March 2015.
