Here are the top 4 stories in Healdsburg today:

  1. The city just gave an update on the long-anticipated Foley Family Community Pavilion project unfolding (very slowly) in the abandoned lot next to Little Saint. Once completed, the idea is that the pavilion will "serve as a permanent home for the Healdsburg Farmers' Market and a community events facility." Healdsburg Community Services officials said in a Facebook post this morning: "We were on site yesterday with representatives of the Foley Family Community Pavilion design team to review and select materials that will be used for the project. The selection process is more art than science, ensuring that the project retains the historical context of the existing building while using modern building materials and techniques. The project design work is on track to begin construction in early summer 2023 with completion anticipated in late summer 2024." Check out their Facebook post for pics of the site, and the city's website for renderings of the future pavilion. (Healdsburg Community Services via Facebook Groups & City of Healdsburg)
  2. There's another giant wine and food event happening this weekend in Healdsburg and environs. It's called the Wine & Food Affair, now in its 24th year, and it's organized by Wine Road, an association of 200 wineries in the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River valleys surrounding Healdsburg. The Tribune calls it "one of the events that has pinned Healdsburg at the epicenter of California’s Wine Country, and which year after year increases its visibility." And compared to similar events that have started in town recently with $1,000-plus ticket prices, it's relatively inexpensive. Tickets for the Wine & Food Affair — which are now sold out, according to the Wine Road website — went for $125 for the weekend, $95 for one day and $25 for designated drivers. The Trib reports that "attendance at this weekend’s event is expected to be high" — in the thousands, even. It's "sure to have an impact on the immediate region, and residents are not all or always enthusiastic," the paper says. You can read more here. 3. Speaking of fancy wine country stuff! A new "boutique" real estate brokerage called Live Wine Country just opened in Healdsburg. Local real estate agent Tatiana McWilliams, who previously worked for bigger companies like Sotheby’s and Compass in town, just launched the new, "homegrown" brokerage with a vision that it will be "steeped in the regional culture and a home for dedicated agents looking for a more personalized, local feel." From her press release: "Tatiana hopes to build a larger team of like-minded professionals that possess the same expansive, almost intuitive, market awareness that she has. McWilliams has been selling California real estate for 13 years, generating $25 million in annual sales as a solo agent and a lifelong volume of more than $230 million. ... 'My team and I live and breathe Wine Country every day, and we want to help clients do the same,' said McWilliams. 'We know how to make that Wine Country dream and lifestyle achievable for our clients, even when it feels out of reach.'" The press release also says Live Wine Country will be "headquartered at 445 Center Street," which is the address for the CraftWork Healdsburg co-working space. Interesting! 4. Sonoma Magazine has the story behind the new Flying Goat Coffee location on the plaza, at the corner of Center and Matheson. It opened last month "with the kind of fanfare usually reserved for Super Bowl wins," the magazine reports. Goat owner Phil Anacker tells Sonoma Mag: "We just let people come in as they saw the doors open, but when word gets out in Healdsburg, it spreads like wildfire. The community totally came out, and it was like a community group hug." Anacker reportedly had to close both his beloved Healdsburg and Santa Rosa locations a couple of years ago due to "a combination of untenable rent hikes, the COVID-19 pandemic and financial exhaustion." From there, "for two years, Anacker had looked for a new location on the Healdsburg square and finally found the 300 Center St. location... and landlords willing to work with the company." Now, the Goat is also looking to open one or two more locations to our south. “We still get emails weekly from customers in Santa Rosa who want us to have another store, and we are in discussions with some property owners there," Anaker says. "We are intent on getting a store in Santa Rosa and possibly Windsor as well." (Sonoma Magazine)
