Here are the top 3 stories today in Healdsburg:
- Looks like there's a new beauty business in town. Redwood Family Dermatology just moved into a residential-looking office space at 409 East Street, right around the corner from Single Thread, according to the Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce. "Their Healdsburg office will focus on laser and cosmetics, while also selling their own line of products," chamber officials say. Redwood has two other, more full-service locations in Santa Rosa and one in Ukiah, their website says. "Thank you very much to the Healdsburg Chamber for the warm welcome in our new office at 409 East Street," the owners posted on social media after a recent ribbon-cutting. "We are delighted to be a part of the community!" (Google Maps & Twitter & Redwood Family Dermatology & Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce via Facebook)
- And over at the fenced-off car wash on Healdsburg Avenue, aka what used to be Healdsburg Auto Wash, a former employee has confirmed some recent rumors about what's to come. According to Healdsburg resident Dana Kelley, who says he worked as the Auto Wash attendant, "the owner sold the property and business to Splash Car Wash," a Santa Rosa company with a few locations. And as far as he knows, the new owner plans to keep the Healdsburg location a car wash. "Their general manager told me [they're] either going to level it and build a Splash Express Car Wash or gut the existing building and put new equipment in it," Kelley says over email. "Take it from me, the equipment is worn out! The structure is well built and I kept that place as clean as I could." Kelley adds that he thinks "Splash Car Wash will be a good thing for Healdsburg" because "they have deep pockets and will modernize everything." I haven't been able to confirm any of this information with Splash, as their corporate communications guy has been out of the office, but I'll let you know as soon as I find out anything more! - The Healdsburg High School girls volleyball team is kind of killing it this season, under the fresh guidance of first-year head coach Richard Mitts. The team is "quietly exuding confidence," the Press Democrat says. They won last night's home game "with a 3-0 sweep of visiting Piner" — and even before that, they were "having a more-than-pleasant start to the season, sitting at 8-5 entering league play," the PD reported. That means "they’ve already doubled their win total from last season, where they were 4-14 overall and 3-5 in the NBL-Redwood." Their coach tells the paper that he thinks "we have a great team on our hands with a strong senior class. We’ve impressed against some bigger schools … I have high expectations coming into league." Here's some more player analysis from the PD: "There aren’t many seniors on the roster, but they will have a big impact for Healdsburg. Theresa Helfrick, Emery Joy and Lizette Molina Gomez will provide leadership and experience for the young squad. Another player to look out for is libero Melissa Casas Gatica. Only a sophomore, she has proved that she can hang and command the court." The team's next game is tomorrow night against Rancho Cotate, which the PD thinks will be be a "big test." Wanna see them play in person? The girls have a home game against Ukiah a week from tomorrow. (MaxPreps & Press Democrat & Press Democrat; paywall)

From my notebook:
- Monday night's Healdsburg City Council meeting is now available to watch online. (City of Healdsburg via Facebook)
- At the meeting, Vice Mayor Ariel Kelley presented her proposal to remove the dangerous poles (also known as bollards) from the Foss Creek Pathway, as they're a "danger" to cyclists. These are the next steps for her proposal, according to the PD: "Healdsburg’s public works director will research options for improving safety and traffic control measures along the city’s bike and pedestrian trail" and "a planned discussion about the bollards on the Foss Creek Pathway will take place in about a month after Public Works Director Larry Zimmer returns with a report." (Press Democrat; paywall)
- Another of our city leaders, Councilmember David Hagele, says he and some other local politicians attended a board meeting earlier this week for the Great Redwood Trail Agency, the relatively new governing body in charge of completing the planned 316-mile Great Redwood Trail — which would stretch from Humboldt Bay to San Francisco Bay, passing through Healdsburg via the Foss Creek Pathway. His takeaway? There's "lots of exciting stuff coming up." (David Hagele via Facebook)
