LAPD Detective Accused Of Secret Bathroom Recordings At Stadium

LOS ANGELES, CA — A Los Angeles Police Department detective accused of secretly recording people inside a men's restroom at Angel Stadium was charged with 75 misdemeanor counts, police said Friday.

Ryan Caplette, 42, of Torrance, was detained at the stadium June 8. A civilian carried out a citizen's arrest of Caplette, telling officers the detective had been recording video in the restroom, police said.

According to Anaheim police, the City Attorney's Office charged Caplette with 37 counts of peeping with intent to invade privacy, 37 counts of secretly videotaping in the restroom and one count of loitering.

Police said their investigation determined that 37 people had been secretly recorded in Anaheim. Anaheim police said Caplette also allegedly committed crimes in Los Angeles, and those allegations have been referred to the LAPD for investigation.

Caplette is expected to appear in court July 22 in Fullerton, police said.

The LAPD said earlier Caplette was assigned to home duty in light of his arrest.
