HOLLYWOOD — December closes out the year with a festive surge of streaming highlights, blending holiday crowd‑pleasers, buzzy dramas and the kind of franchise finales that dominate cultural conversation. From family specials to prestige films and long‑awaited returns, Netflix’s final slate of 2025 delivers a celebratory mix of comfort viewing and headline‑making originals.

December Highlights

Carrying the momentum into year’s end is Rian Johnson’s “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” premiering Dec. 12. The third installment in Johnson’s acclaimed whodunit series once again features Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc, this time unraveling a labyrinthine case steeped in betrayal, secrets and razor‑sharp social commentary. With Johnson’s signature blend of suspense and satire, plus an ensemble cast stacked with A‑list talent, the film is already positioned as one of Netflix’s marquee holiday releases — and a likely contender in the awards conversation.

Commanding the holiday spotlight is “Stranger Things” Season 5, Volume 2, arriving Dec. 25. The final chapter of Netflix’s flagship supernatural saga promises an epic showdown in Hawkins, where Eleven and her friends face their most perilous battle yet. With high‑stakes action, emotional farewells and the culmination of years of storytelling, the release is set to dominate cultural conversation and cement “Stranger Things” as one of the defining series of the streaming era.

Adding a note of introspection to Netflix’s December slate is “Jay Kelly,” premiering Dec. 5. Directed by Noah Baumbach, the drama stars George Clooney as a fading movie star confronting the wreckage of fame, with Adam Sandler as his loyal manager. What begins as a publicity tour across Europe evolves into a meditation on legacy, regret and identity, supported by a cast that includes Laura Dern, Billy Crudup, Riley Keough, Greta Gerwig and Jim Broadbent.

Also premiering this month is “The Abandons,” debuting Dec. 4. Set in 1854 Washington Territory, Kurt Sutter's gritty Western saga pits two matriarchs against one another: Lena Headey as Fiona Nolan, who leads a found family of orphans and outcasts on her cattle ranch, and Gillian Anderson as Constance Van Ness, a wealthy widow determined to protect her mining empire. Their clash of survival and ambition unfolds against sweeping frontier landscapes, positioning “The Abandons” as one of Netflix’s boldest genre plays of the season.

Adding a jolt of suspense to the holiday slate is “Relay,” premiering Dec. 12. The thriller stars Riz Ahmed as a world‑class fixer who brokers secret payoffs between corporations and criminals, only to have his carefully controlled system disrupted by a stranger’s plea for protection. Lily James co‑stars, bringing urgency and vulnerability to the tense cat‑and‑mouse dynamic. With its mix of moral ambiguity, high‑stakes intrigue and sharp performances, “Relay” arrives as Netflix’s most adrenaline‑driven release of the month.

Bringing festive cheer to younger audiences is “Elmo & Mark Rober’s Merry Giftmas,” premiering Dec. 8. The Netflix Original holiday special pairs the beloved Sesame Street character with YouTube star and former NASA engineer Mark Rober for a playful, science‑tinged gift‑making adventure. The 30‑minute special blends creativity, learning and holiday spirit, rounding out Netflix’s December slate with family‑friendly warmth.
