- Jan’s Health Bar is celebrating its 50th anniversary. “What began as a small pop-up restaurant inside George’s Surf Shop on Main Street in Huntington Beach has grown into a multi-unit mainstay that continues to make waves as it expands throughout coastal Southern California.” In spite of changes taking place over these five decades, some things stayed the same. Examples include the “Peanut Butter Banana Date smoothie and the Tuna Salad Sandwich.” (QSR Magazine)
- The Saturday Huntington Beach State Park cleanup was a success! (We talked about it Saturday.) According to the participants, volunteers were able to remove almost 328 pounds of trash! (Michael Tou)
- We learned Tuesday that the HBFD is now home to Kingman, a 3-year-old black lab and canine crew member. His role is that of a Peer Support Dog, which is a program that began in February. “A new role for the Department, the Peer Support Dog provides emotional support to members of the Fire Department, Police Department, and the community.” The dog was found in Kingman, Arizona and rescued by the Mojave County Animal Shelter. The Patriotic Service Dog Foundation handled the training and donated the canine graduate to the HBFD. (Surf City Break)
- HB will celebrate Earth Day “by holding environmental cleanup events throughout the City on Saturday, April 16 from 9 am to 12 noon.” These volunteer efforts will focus on Bartlett Park at 19822 Beach Boulevard and a beach cleanup at 21579 PCH near Zacks Too. Parking will be free for volunteers. (Surf City Break)
- Since Friday, the Westminster Mall is home to more than 30 animatronic dinosaurs that you can enjoy in a drive-through style. Called the Jurassic Empire tour, the big puppets roar and move. But don’t wait too long! You have until May 8 to check them out. “Get up close and see the voracious Velociraptors, the massive ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex, and the soaring Pterodactyl! Jurassic Empire will stimulate your child's imagination (and yours!)” (Westminster Mall)
