• San Diego must raise water rates 44% over 4 years, officials warn (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Imperial Beach residents tied into San Diego’s water and sewer systems face steep rate hikes, with cumulative water increases potentially topping 90% by 2031 and new sewer hikes also planned. City officials are scrambling for ways to trim costs or boost revenue, but analysts warn that avoiding these increases will be very difficult, largely because of rising imported water prices. 
• Scientists Have Developed a Real-Time Water Testing Kit (surfer.com) — Imperial Beach is singled out as one of the nation’s worst hotspots for unsafe ocean bacteria levels, with 82% of samples rated unsafe, underscoring ongoing local water quality concerns. Scientists in the UK have created a 15‑minute Bactiquick test kit that could let surfers, schools, and community groups quickly check water safety and share results in real time.
