• South Bay school board votes to close two more elementary schools (10news.com) — Families in Imperial Beach’s South Bay Union School District face the planned closure of Sunnyslope Elementary in 2029 and Berry Elementary in 2032, following an earlier vote to close Central Elementary. District leaders cite steep enrollment declines and financial strain, while teachers warn of job displacement and instability and their union signals it may strike in February over a long-running contract dispute.
   

• Port of San Diego Expands With 100 Acres of Land and 8,000 Acres of Bay (obrag.org) — Imperial Beach’s bayfront will see new rules as the Port of San Diego finalizes a plan expanding its control over thousands of acres of bay and nearby land. A small five-acre strip linking Imperial Beach to the Silver Strand is designated for low-impact recreation, potentially adding amenities along the Bayshore Bikeway while keeping most nearby land in conservation status.
