LAGUNA NIGUEL, CA — A $15.5 million grant was secured by the city to stabilize the land under La Paz Road, between Rancho Niguel and Kings Road, the city said in a statement.

The funds will be used for permanent street repairs required on the road after moving land was reported last May, prompting officials to issue a local state of emergency.

The grant was awarded by the California Transportation Commission voted unanimously to approve the City of Laguna Niguel's La Paz Road Project as part of the Local Transportation Climate Adaptation Program funding.

"Receiving this grant takes several years off the timeline originally anticipated to complete the permanent repairs on La Paz Road," a city statement read. "However, the city will still need to move forward with implementing the Long-Term Phase II Plan, as it will still take several years to complete the design phase of the permanent repairs."

Residents in need of more information on the current status of La Paz Road repairs can visit the city's website.
