Gardening Stuff Plant cuttings Exchange Feb 11th Irvine Near Balloon . At the Orange County Great Park Farm Food Lab

Garden items and Plant Cuttings Exchange Event

Registration page at : https://southoccrfg.org/exchange-event
On Saturday February 11th we will be having our annual Scion wood exchange event.

This will be done differently than our prior scion wood / grafting events and different from any other Orange County Chapter in the past. The event will be encouraging bringing anything garden related from cuttings to seeds to unneeded pots, books, tools. To make them available to others who can use them. We ask that on items in short supply take minimal so others can also get something.

We will be giving Five 2.75 gallon pots per person and one of those will be filled with some quality planting soil consisting of sandy loam, peat moss, pumice, humus. Please to not take more than one pot of soil as we are limited on the amount and need to make available to all.

We will also have some white food grade buckets with lids from 2 gallon to 3 gallon size. Limited to one per group.

We will have a number of Seed packets to give out.

Scion wood / cutting can be dropped off at Frank’s Lake Forest address prior to the day of the event or on the day of the event as early as 8:30am at the Farm Food Lab in Irvine.. We will be preprinting labels for each scion wood , and will have them prepared prior to the event. We still have some labels left over from last year, so less work. – provided we know ahead of time what to expect.

Fill out the registration page (Below) with the Scion wood / Cuttings planning to bring. (do not forget to click SUBMIT)

Note- on the event location some members noted it can be difficult for find with mapping software since the park is so large. So… We drove from different directions to the location while recording videos of how to get there from different directions . We have posted them on our
website to aid everyone.)

Schedule

11:00 am everyone else.

12:00, we will have a brief description of how to graft avocado seedlings.

12:15 we will have participants graft cuttings onto avocado seedlings that we will be supplying. There will be mentor grafters going around to answer questions and to critique the grafting methods. Our goal is to increase hands-on knowledge by members of grafting period.

Prior to the event we will also release a video describing possible issues to expect when grafting, this way more people are prepared ahead of time and make better use of the instructions. If you or someone you know is good at grafting or even another different method of propagating plants
and want to speak or answer questions at the event, let us know.

Grafting mentors get 3 to 5 Gallons of worm castings.

We expect a large turnout at the event.

We are asking attendees to make available scion wood / cuttings of known varieties NO citrus cuttings please ( there is a citrus Quarantine due to a disease that kills citrus trees. We will be releasing more information as the time approaches to people who have registered , we
recommend you put it on your calendar. It will be a great time to meet others with interests in gardening..

If you want to help out in promoting it, we have made a printable document at https://southoccrfg.org/event.pdf print and cut on the dotted lines and give to others that may be interested. Thank you.
